Westfield made it 8 wins from 8 on the road this season with a strong second half display to see off a spirited Frimley Green side.
Westfield welcomed back Charlie Newman into the starting line-up whilst Simon Sheppard was on the bench after a week’s holiday.

The visitors pressed early and after 90 seconds saw the ball twice cleared off the line with efforts from Tyler and Jones. The pre-match talk involved not taking Frimley lightly despite their indifferent start to the season and this was backed up as the hosts showed endeavour and creativity up front. The should have opened the scoring after 7 minutes but Jelovac headed wide from Gidding’s right wing cross. Moments later Brawley got down well to his left to keep out the home side’s 20 yard free kick effort and from the resulting corner Neil Roissetter hacked clear off the line as the pressure mounted on the visitors. Brawley again had to be at his best racing out to deflect Gidding’s shot wide when clear through on goal. As the half grew the more frustrated Westfield got and it came as no surprise when the hosts opened the scoring on 36 minutes when Jelovac who had threatened throughout rose highest to loop his headed beyond Brawley. Westfield were hit by a further blow when on the stroke of half time Mark Tyler hobbled off with what appeared to be an ankle injury and has since emerged is far serious.

Westfield made a change at half time brining on Simon Sheppard and with manager John Comer’s strong words still ringing in their ears Westfield made an immediate impact within 30 seconds of the restart. After Sheppard’s pressure on the full back Rob Jones intercepted the weak back pass to the keeper and coolly fed Neil Roissetter who arriving into the box side footed into the corner despite the attention of two men on the line from 12 yards. Westfield should have been ahead the minute after when Lee Allum with the goal at his mercy tamely shot at the keeper from 6 yards out but it mattered not as within 5 minutes Westfield had raced into a 3-1 lead. Firstly after Brawley’s long clearance found Cheeseman on the right the pacey wideman saw his cross expertly headed home by the covering Frimley midfielder to give Westfield the lead. From the restart Lee Allum caught the home sweeper dwindling on the ball on the edge of his own box and rounded the keeper to slot home left footed for his second goal of the week. The hosts were now at 6’s and 7’s and gaps which had never surfaced in the first half began to appear. Westfield made it 4 half way through the second half when Adam Harding rifled home into the bottom right hand corner after the home side again failed to deal with a corner. Rob Jones who was having an excellent match couldn’t find the finish to match his footwork on two occasions but was finally rewarded 6 minutes from time when he again raced clear to put an audacious chip over the keeper and give Westfield their 5th of the afternoon. This proved to be the final goal as Westfield sealed their biggest victory of the season
